Glenwood Gardens

Just after school started Nathan and I took a trip to one of his favorite parks; Highfield Discovery at Glenwood Gardens.  Nathan knows it as “the one with the tree house”.  This gave Nathan something exciting to do on a school day now that it is just the two of us.

Nathan ran to visit the trains first.  On the left are the houses of the 3 Little Pigs just under one of the train tracks.  On the right is one of the Fairy Villages.

Nathan made himself busy collecting rain water in buckets to water the flowers and other plants nearby.  He also tried on the red butterfly wings over at Grandmother’s House and we remembered the birthday butterflies all over again.

That’s Nathan up in the tree house!  There are lots of places and things to investigate in there.

There was a lizard to visit and pet, bats with glowing eyes in one of the dark tunnels under the tree roots and a cool mist to run through underneath a gigantic spider to help cool us down.  It was early in the morning but already proving to be a very hot day.

When it got hot enough Nathan said he was ready to go home and get a popsicle.  On our way out we paused to smell the giant pot of beautiful marigolds.  I would have liked to walk the paths through the park but it was so hot already by the time we got there that I decided to take advantage of the “cooler” part of the day and just let Nathan play.  Neither of us would have lasted for playing, otherwise.  Autumn is on its way and it will be more comfortable for longer trips outdoors then.  This park is one of the areas gems.
