Two baskets of giant, fuzzy, delicious peaches, as big as my hand.
So fresh the greenery still attached was tender and green. Check out the size difference on the right between a grocery store peach and our farm fresh peach. The difference in taste is about as big, too.
Setting some aside for eating once again the rest, a huge mound, were washed, blanched, quartered and cold packed with light syrup. These peaches had a lot of red coloring to them and is apparent in the dark hues of pinkish red of my bottled product. I thought the pink on the inside of this peach really showed its beauty.
Nathan was an enthusiastic helper when it came time to skin the peaches floating in the cold water. School had been in session for a couple of weeks by the time Labor Day weekend rolled around and I took pity on them and let them spend their time accomplishing homework for school instead of participating in peach production. Nathan is a pleasant helper in the kitchen and did a really good job with this.
Two cases or 50 pounds of peaches, with a few taken out for eating, added 22 1/2 quarts to our pantry.
