Chicago–Day 2

On our full day in Chicago we had planned to go to the Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum.  Both have reciprocal agreements with our museum memberships and with as large as Cincinnati is we do not have a planetarium so this was a great opportunity.  And “Sue” the T-Rex is housed in the Field Museum which would have been really exciting… if the traffic hadn’t taken us SO long to navigate through and if we hadn’t taken so long at the Adler Planetarium.  But it’s better to have too much to do than too little and we did enjoy ourselves.

Here are all five of my children right across from the Adler Planetarium and Space Museum.  It’s got a great view of Chicago.

I didn’t take too many pictures on this day but Nathan did have a great time moving these hoses around in his space craft and helping the ship blast off from his captain’s chair.

I believe Tristan was visiting the Martian planet there on the left.  And we stopped in to see a a couple of movies including “Welcome to the Universe” which was totally awesome and the 3-D movie “Space Junk” which was also really cool and completely eye opening.

When we left the planetarium we decided to take a walk in the park that is out behind it.  Since it was so sunny we stopped to get the sunscreen on.  The kids had a great time looking at the water and watching all the sea-gulls.  Sea-gulls do not call Cincinnati home at all and I miss hearing their calls and watching them soar.

We had never eaten lunch on this day after having eaten a substantial breakfast at our hotel and spending our time exploring instead of eating and so our youngest ones walked along the boardwalk with fistfuls of craisins which I had in my bag.  Lindsay was wishing we’d brought swimsuits because there happened to be a beach back there in the park on Lake Michigan.  We were getting hungry, the Field Museum was about to close and traffic was going to make getting anywhere take a while and so we decided to head back to the car and find our restaurant for some dinner.  We had planned on taking the family to Uno’s.

We passed by the original Uno’s; its location right down town but decided to make our way to the Uno’s that was out a ways and closer to our hotel room if for no other reason than to avoid the $30 parking garage fee.  Tristan ordered a make it yourself pizza which was pretty fun for him to put together.  The younger kids picked their own kids meals and enjoyed the crayons playing tic-tac-toe while waiting for their meals.  Haley, Lindsay, Rick and I shared pizza.  I have to say that the children did a really great job behaving in the restaurant.  We rarely go out to eat except the occasional visit to McDonalds. 

The girls sat on one side of the table… the boys on the other.  For dessert we ordered two Giant Cookie Sundaes to share.  They were soooo good…

and we were soooooo full!  Mmmmm!  A very fun evening following a very fun day.
