WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT HOME LIFE WHEN …
- there is a splinter that needs to be gotten out of your child’s forehead!!!
-your child volunteers to bring in “rotten bananas” for the classroom science experiment because “you have plenty” of them?
-you make six trips to the pediatrician in one week
-cupcakes are brought in two months late for a “half-birthday” classroom celebration?
-the bathroom schedule is actually posted nightly and takes 5 1/2 hours straight to get through?
-there are 15 bath towels in the house and the drawer of clean towels is empty
-receiving a phone message is hit or miss because every time the phone rings the cat jumps up to “answer” the phone with a meow and presses the buttons with each ring.
-after sitting in the orthodontist’s waiting room for an hour trying to entertain four kids a teenage boy leaves his appointment and the four year old is convinced that she just saw Justin Beiber walk out of the office
-your son writes an entire paper for the teacher on how boring his chores are and at the same time how he likes to do “extra” chores to receive his electronic privileges
-out of desperation an explanation is given to the pre-schooler how to tell from the clock when it’s time to get up from quiet time. For two days this has worked and not only is there some brilliant parenting going on to have taught such a young child to tell time but there are a few quiet moments in the house. Hurray! Pat on the back for that one. The third day the child comes down after only ten minutes in bed and the only thing accomplished is a huge load of laundry thrown in the washer and a load moved to the dryer. “But it’s time to get up… my clock says so”. “It’s not 3 o’clock… get back to bed now” and here come the looks and the threats. At three o’clock the clock in question is found to say 4:28. So much for brilliant parenting!
-$4.00 for one permission slip involving two separate field trips actually involves a payment plan with the teacher
-having a conversation that is un-interrupted and without eavesdroppers involves going out to sit in the parked car in the driveway in the dark with the doors locked
I’m never bored…And at the risk of sounding like Martha… that’s a good thing!
