Backyard Adventures

Sometimes you don’t need to look farther than your own backyard…

Frequently my children gather items into their “adventure pack” and head out to the backyard for some fun.  Items include a flashlight, map, telescope, shovels, plastic axe, canteen and among other things of course… a pretend hot dog!

Outdoors was a pleasant escape from the noise and mess of more home renovations.

The oppressive humidity and heat alerts lifted today making it comfortable outdoors and less oven-like.

Why is there an old sheet draped over the “Little House”?

“Because, Mom, now it looks like a tent”!

Time for bed!  Kaitlyn’s only nap for the day and she is feeling it.

“Mom!  I’m tired”, but it doesn’t last long.

Not having anything to do with sleep, Nathan decides to rock on his horse instead, though sleep probably should have been welcome if he could find a quiet place around the house after a day with absolutely no nap.  Inside the rattling house it is loud with home repairs that sound like a jet engine is taking off, all day long for 12 hours straight, and leaves him without a bedroom for the time being.

Nathan loves his rocking horse.  He saw real horses this morning!  As well as chickens, llamas, goats, pigs, ducks, and others.

Where is this boy going?

Nathan loves to crawl through the grass.

Nathan’s adventure includes “smelling” the flowers… with his open mouth!!!  And then he laughs, every time.  After a while he got tired of smelling them and decided to start picking them.

Time to redirect…

He settles on picking clover, smelling it and giving the beautiful flowers to Mommy.  Sweet boy:)  Watch for bumble bees.

“For you, Mom”!  And he has found yet another stick.

Best buddies had a nice afternoon adventuring in the back yard, dreaming up stories, imagining characters and loving the freedoms of summertime.
