We look forward to this day each year for a variety of reasons. First, we remember the wonderful freedoms we are so blessed with in this country; freedoms very dearly sacrificed for by so many brothers and sons, fathers and husbands. Without studying history or reading about foreign lands many of us lose this concept of what Memorial Day actually is. We take our freedoms for granted. I always try to keep gratitude in my heart and an understanding of what this sacrifice is for in my mind.
Memorial Day can be fun, as well. We enjoyed a picnic with our Ward Family in a park on the Little Miami. My older kids got soaked! They were told not to get wet past their knees! That worked!
Completely soaked, they had to ride home sitting on water resistant picnic blankets from the trunk or else walk a good 12 or so miles home. Once home they had to play out in the back yard until it was their turn for the tub.
Look at those grins on their faces!
Kaitlyn joined them for a picture just before leaving.
She was not drenched, just sweaty and tired.
After a late lunch which we brought baked beans for, the younger kids enjoyed swinging just across the road from our picnic.
Kaitlyn pumps all on her own and goes up pretty high. Nathan enjoys the ride. The swing is a great way to catch a breeze outdoors on such a hot and humid day.
Kaitlyn spent hours over on the playground. Most of our children hardly ate; they were so excited to be with friends and play in the creek or on the playground. Nathan did take his time to eat, however. He loved baked beans and hot dogs and lemonade!
Kaitlyn rock climbs. She’s a great climber. The slide was HOT!
Kaitlyn played and Rick and I got a chance to catch up with friends. It was a fun way to spend our holiday.
