The Children’s Museum

Some of the best money we spend all year is on our annual pass to the Museum Center.  It’s a different experience each time you go even if it’s just because the children have grown and changed.  And you can go as often as you want for as short or as long as you want.  It’s always a fun time.  Today the “good health” factor lined up with the schedule and we were able to skip naps and go almost until closing time as this was a running day for my elementary children.  Armed with an afternoon snack of cuties and water bottles (eating on the rotunda is an experience Kaitlyn doesn’t like to skip) we left home to go have a great time and to see what we could see.

We found some fish, and then Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches which Nathan was very impressed with because they were “moving” and then we found a groundhog.  We also saw some turtles.

These two played with circles, built circles and made creations out of circles.  This is Nathan’s favorite shape so it was very exciting for him to play with the “circles”.

They crawled through some circles too; first to get inside of the big tank filled with fish and turtles and the latter was about 15 or 20 feet above the ground which Nathan made his way through for the first time following his big sister so he could go down the steep twirly slide with her.  He loved it so much he went down two times before Kaitlyn made friends with a girl about her own age and went racing through all the mazes in the woods for the bigger kids with rope bridges that are suspended twice as high.  And Nathan was also ready to do his own thing.

He played “spider” in a circular web for quite a while.  He also enjoyed hanging out in the tree house and having an imaginary snack with a friendly owl.

At “Little Sprouts” the kids had a good time climbing up and around the slide, playing in the sandbox and fishing.  Both children enjoyed wheelbarrows, lawnmowers and punching numbers on the cash register.  Kaitlyn found herself missing her own baby doll who was home taking a nap so she found a baby there and tried to dress it by wrapping it up in some dress-ups she went looking for.

Last, but definitely not least was Water Works.  I made them wait to do this just in case they got too wet and needed to change.  They had a great time manipulating the water spouts, locks, pulleys and watching and feeling the splashes that came their way.  Many, many giggles!  At nearly 5 p.m. we made our way out into the cold, damp and gloomy evening and found that it was “raining snow”!  After a warm dinner, a hot bath and a couple of bedtime stories these two snuggled into bed with their quilties and fell into peaceful sleep.
