October is a beautiful month of change. It feels different and looks different from one end of the month to the other. The month begins with warm enough temperatures to keep wearing your shorts. But we get into the spirit of the season with some spooky Halloween music that we dance to with ribbons.
I think the haunted music gets turned on by all of the kids as often as possible for the entire month every single year. The children, all the way back to Haley, have fallen in love with this music during the October of their infancies and it is part of the season for us now.
Soon the mornings are chilly enough to share a cup of hot chocolate with your best buddy. It’s a great way to start the day.
We really get into helping make (and eat) our famous “ghost cupcakes”. What other kind of cupcake is there? Sorry! No Halloween sprinkles this year, though.
Kaitlyn enjoyed making life sized letters with blocks or using the blocks for creating the kinds of castles that fairy tales are made of.
Autumn is a time for cleaning and airing out. The kids got in on the action.
The best part of window washing is the contagious giggling that happened when the glass was heard to be “squeaky” clean.
Leaves began to fall in earnest about halfway through the month. Nathan loved chasing and popping bubbles. The cat didn’t know which to chase first; the leaf or the bubble!
We learned lots of fun Halloween finger plays and read lots of Halloween stories. We dug out warm wooly sweaters and looked for as many cats to cuddle with as possible and we watched “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” a dozen times over.
Slowly our leaf calendar finally made its way around the door counting down to the much anticipated night of “Trick or Treat”.
