It’s not summer time without a camping trip. This year’s camping trip has become a forced issue and due to time restraints this may be the only one the kids get!
Since we are down half a house at the moment (no one can get to the second floor) we packed some bags and moved three of the kids to our “addition” out in the backyard… a tent!
The weather is unusually “perfect” for these few days and the kids are having a blast. It’s almost better than a camping trip because while a fairly clean bathroom is close by, the fridge and running water are right there as well. And the yard is padlocked so it’s a lot tougher for someone to come and rob you of the contents of your cooler in the dark (as one year we discovered happens when one doesn’t leave the city far enough behind). Rick, who’s also been sleeping outdoors, states a down side… it’s a little noisier sleeping outside in the city but during drying times between stain and polyurethane coats Rick is able to attend to not just mowing the lawn but even edging it! Tristan loves seeing stars out his screened window facing north each night and all the kids love Mom coming out in the dark with a flashlight to read “scary” stories in the tent like “Hansel & Gretel” or “The Tinderbox”. Nathan has been more comfortable sleeping indoors near his Mom since he’s been battling a high fever after getting four immunizations at once during his 12 month well check the other day.
And some of us preferred to eat things separately, enjoying them for what they are.
