Mendon Ponds 7/17/10

We drove out to Mendon on Saturday Night, having decided that this was the place for canoeing AND swimming; a little something for everyone.  There are a great many choices around here for swimming and boating.

We spotted these deer on the way in.  By the time we were leaving Rick and I counted over 28!

Rick helped Isaac carry his canoe to the water’s edge.  Paul helped with Dad’s canoe.

Rachael holds Porter while some of the others go canoeing.  Paul says he’ll watch Dad’s hat!

Tristan and Kaitlyn test the water and then decide it’s just fine.  Last time we were here, swimming was popular at this location but NYS has limited funds for lifeguards anymore since 9/11.

Kaitlyn and Nathan love splashing around.

Nathan has company!  He is happy to splash around with someone closer to his own size.

Lindsay shows up on the scene eventually and plays around with Tristan and Kaitlyn.  Paul took a break from Cornell to join us for the weekend.  He was a lot of fun to be with and he’s great with the kids.

Porter LOVES laying down in the water.  My little guy wasn’t as impressed with laying in sandy water and decided he’d like a towel.

I spied more seagulls here at the park tonight.  They are fairly elusive for picture taking however.

The first round of canoes returned to exchange passengers.

Haley has gone canoeing several times this summer now and is getting the hang of it.

Time for round two with the canoes.

Haley began her trip with her Pops and me.

Then her Uncle Paul decided to try meeting up with us in the other canoe.

Eventually he got going.  It’s a little tough to canoe all by yourself.  So in the middle of the water we met up and taught Haley how to CAREFULLY slip from one canoe to another.  We talked her through it and nobody got wet.

After our return, a third round of canoes went out while we got kids out of the water, dried and onto the nearby swings.  Kaitlyn discovered her “Pet Rock” near her swing and decided it had to come home to Cinti to live in her rock garden.  She carried the sizable thing to the car herself.

Kaitlyn spits her tongue out at me for taking her picture again.  Nathan loves the cool breeze and sunset after a wonderful evening in the park.

  1. So Kaitlyn has inherited the love of rocks from the rest of us, huh?? Pretty cool! Greg has been sneaking rocks home for years! The worst is when he leaves them in the pockets and they go through the washer or dryer!!

  2. I find rocks in my washer and dryer all the time! I find them in car seats, the back of the toilet, in bed, and even between the windows when I open them! We have a rock garden outside to try to tame the rock habit. It must be genetic!
