Tristan is playing baseball this summer on the Cincinnati Reds team… well, at least he ended up on a team through the YMCA that was given red team shirts and so since the boys get to name their own team, Cincinnati Reds was the obvious choice. Tristan is loving playing games and practicing twice a week with the other boys and girls. Our neighbors are probably loving this too, since there are fewer balls for them to retrieve from their yards when they go out to mow… and fewer little boys jumping fences to go fetch the variety of balls that Tristan tends to wing over the backyard fence. He’s got a powerful hit… wish the yard was a little bigger for him.
Yay! We found a pair of old cleats previously used by an older sister for soccer way back when. They are just Tristan’s size. Saturday he headed to the field first and got to stand next to the coach who was pitching to retrieve balls and help throw them to first base.
Tristan sits on the bench with his team waiting his turn to bat. He discovered that one of the girls on his team attends the same school as him but is one grade ahead.
Batter up! He usually hits the ball on the first try and prides himself on NEVER having had to use the tee.
As we sat there Saturday morning the sun burned the haze away leaving the air to heat up quickly. I slipped my sandals off as Tristan made his way from first base to second and my feet still felt like they were sitting in the oven. Tristan is a very speedy runner… all that practice from running club.
Tristan loves loves loves to play short-stop. He’s quick to grab the ball and nearly caught a fly during the game. So close. But everyone wins at these games anyway. Two more games this week before the close of the season and the team party. Summer sure flies quickly with only a few weeks of freedom left. It is fun to watch Tristan having a great time playing baseball.

Cracks me up, boys picking their own names. Elijah's team had dark blue jerseys. They also named themselves the Reds. Good times.
