“Fasching” is a German Carnival celebrated in Germany each year. At Fairview-Clifton German Language School it is their BIGGEST fundraiser of the year. And it is big! It is also lots of fun. Each March, we go to play and to support this good cause. Many past students and families still return to Fairview for this event and people in the neighborhood turn up as well. It’s a good time.
We started out eating lunch before it got too crowded. There were hotdogs, Brats, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, pretzels and pickles among other tasty delights like streudel and root beer. Nathan brought his own snacks.
After lunch it was on to games, prizes and other interesting sights:
It was raining out and so I never even wandered into the outdoor tent containing more activities. The moon jump was not running because of the rain.
This happy girl won among other prizes, a lollipop. Yum!
We wandered down the K-1 hallway to the Extended Learning Area set up as a sweet shop. (I can’t spell that one in German but I can say it).
Which goodie will be Kaitlyn’s?
Haley also managed to bum some money off of me.
Nathan fought the nap… Fasching was simply too exciting to sleep through but that didn’t stop his Dad from trying.
Clowns made this head dress for Lindsay. They are in the same colors as the German flag on her face and her German scarf around her neck.
Tristan marched behind his best friend in the first grade mask parade as they followed the school’s marching band through the crowded hallways, cafeteria and gymnasium.
Kaitlyn’s visit to the art teacher during last Tuesday’s cello lesson had provided her with her own mask for the event. (The art teacher has a free bell during our cello time and offered… she knows our kids and she serves on a district committee with Rick). Kaitlyn was very excited about coming to school today. She tells me she can’t wait to go to school every day. I told her there will be plenty of time for that when she’s five and beyond. Enjoy where you are right now…it will never come back or be the same.
Lindsay marched in the 4th, 5th & 6th grade parade. The masks are made in art class previous to this event.
Kaitlyn spent the last of her tickets making a sand art cell phone which she proceeded to talk on for quite some time.
Tristan spent his tickets rather quickly as well as the spending money he brought. Yet with all the friends he kept spotting, he was still hard to find for very many pictures. He did have a great time, however, and can’t believe it’s a whole year until the next one.
