Haley’s Party… Finally!

Patiently, Haley waited 7 weeks for a free weekend night for a birthday party with her friends to celebrate turning 13.  Haley made invitations herself and was told she could invite 4 friends over.  That is the perfect sized party for our home (unless we’re outside).  Victoria, Avocet, Zahra & Marissa attended.  Imani, Haley’s best friend since Kindergarten, could not come as she had a tennis tournament to play.  They are together all day today, instead.

After hanging out upstairs visiting and waiting for everyone to arrive, the girls got to work on quilt blocks for a friendship quilt for Haley.  The blocks were done with painted hand prints made into butterflies.  Each butterfly was unique just as each friendship is.  The girls enjoyed this artistic task.

The birthday girl enjoyed this crafty exercise as well.

The girls each signed their names to the quilt block they made.  I told Haley she may have to have one more party to create enough blocks for a whole quilt.  She thought that sounded just fine.  It also buys me more time before I have to piece it together.

After pizza, salad, strawberries and chocolate milk eaten on the living room floor while watching “Hoodwinked” (you’ve got to see that one) the girls gathered for a scavenger hunt for party favors and finally the presents.  Each girl got a bag and the rhyming clues (courtesy of Rick… I did the baking and the buying) were read.  The search began and the girls had a LOT of fun with this.  While they were through the whole house, these girls stuck together nicely each lending ideas, and they were SO polite!  These are good kids.  These are nice kids.  (I could do this again).

The house was a tad crowded with four more people.

They were upstairs and downstairs.  We tested the limits as to how many people can fit into the bathroom.  Some clues were even outside.  Ultimately, Haley was led to her gifts.

Haley received a charm bracelet and a new book The Alchemist .

Some people did not bring gifts.  I had told them this was fine.  Haley really just wanted to share time and have fun with her friends.

There is ONLY one kind of cupcake at our house, everyone agrees.

Ghost cupcakes are the BEST CUPCAKES IN THE WORLD!  Everyone always tells me that.  Teachers, friends, everyone!  And they are not just for Halloween; we decorate them according to the occasion.

These cupcakes with chocolate buttercream are served with chocolate ice cream tonight… and milk!

Cards from the game “Would You Rather…” were read and discussed.

After cupcakes and ice cream, 8 kids headed out the back door to play tag in the dark.  This kitten slept on the floor mat at the back door with all the kids going in and out the door and pick up parents going in and out as well.  Nothing phases her.  She is just right for our family.  Outdoors, Tristan was the first one “IT” with a light up light saber.  Kaitlyn was having a hard time seeing and being seen so I handed her a flashlight and she  had a wonderful time running around the yard with the big kids.  The moon looked like a Cheshire Cat smiling down at us through the branches of the front Maple, adding to the mysteriousness of playing outdoors in the dark.
