Every so often we like to change it up a little and see something new and the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis is great. It’s a vacation close to home. It is also huge and impossible to see in one visit so we have ventured there several times over the past year. For our family size it made sense to buy a membership since the cost of membership is only one and a half visits for us. We bring our own food with us and it’s a cheap date. Just the cost of time and gasoline. On Friday March 26th, after getting a bit of a late start due to tired kids (remember late rock concert the night before) and getting both the boys changed a second time (one diaper for Nathan and one complete change for Tristan after an entire glass of milk was spilled on him by his sister) we were finally on our way.
I won’t say that this gives a story line of our visit. That is pretty impossible given that there are seven of us, sometimes going three directions and only one camera but this gives an overview of the day.
After going across the overpass these dinosaurs (also seen from the outside) are there to greet as they try to get in also. Also on the outside, but not seen here are several dinosaurs busting out of the museum right through the bricks. Pretty cool!
The Barbie exhibit is here. I believe Haley and Lindsay made it into the exhibit before the museum closed right after they went down a giant slide they set up on the stair case. This museum is 5 stories tall.
Kaitlyn and I went to the “carousel of wishes and dreams” of which I have discovered there are no pictures.

The miniature village and dollhouses were delightful; so many details to discover.
Tristan took notice of the cello in the back on the right.
Kaitlyn enjoys the science area; a new way to walk and she also puts together a healthy balanced meal on the computer.
There is a new exhibit about family life in Cairo, Egypt. There is a big difference between city life and village life. Haley was more impressed with city life, since there is a presence of technology. Neither Haley nor Lindsay was sure about being a woman in that culture. The head scarves raised Haley’s eyebrows but she watched some interviews with girls her own age and at least feels better about it now.
Watch out for one of these along the Nile!
It looks like Nathan and Daddy found some dinosaurs to play with!

We spent a nice day together as a family. At 5 p.m. we joined Rexy the dinosaur with flags in our hand for the goodbye parade down the ramp from the top floor of the museum down to the bottom. It is an exciting (and quite clever) way to clear out the museum with the minimum of tears as it is time to leave. I think there are still areas of the museum I have yet to see. Perhaps we will make it back there sometime.
